A large-scale residential project on 9.2 acres of vacant land was tabled during a meeting of the Holland Township Planning Commission on May 12.
Lantern Village, a 60-unit development proposed by Green Development Ventures and Allen Edwin Homes, would be located at 12500 Quincy Street. The plan calls for 24 “alley-load” homes with driveways and garages at the rear and 18 buildings with two single-family units each, for a total of 36.
Developers said the project would provide a different option than what’s currently available for lease in the area, with more living space and bedrooms. The two-story homes would have 1,640 square feet with three or four bedrooms, two-and-a-half bathrooms and an attached, two-car garage.
The anticipated rental rate was $2,500-$3,000 per month.
The project, as proposed, would be completed in two phases — with an anticipated start date in the second quarter of 2027. The design includes four acres of open space.
However, commissioners raised several issues May 12, including the project’s snow removal plan, current sidewalk structure, and a lack of necessary space for safety personnel and delivery trucks to turn around. Several officials felt developers were trying to fit too much into the available space.
The body’s decision on granting a PUD was tabled to give developers time to adjust the proposal. It could reappear before officials as soon as July.
