The spring season is underway and in full force, giving the area plenty of top performers in high school sports each week.
Here is a look at the top performers of the week:
Cora Boerman, Holland Christian soccer
The Maroon scored a hat trick to lead Holland Christian past rival Holland 5-0 on Monday, April 27.
Neave Rewa, Saugatuck soccer
The Trailblazers senior scored on a penalty kick, then added the game-winning goal in a 3-1 win over rival Fennville on Monday, April 27. She then scored three goals in a 6-0 win over Watervliet on Wednesday, April 29.
Linus VandenBerg, Holland Christian golf
The Maroons golfer shot an even-par-72 to finish second out of 75 at the Spring Lake Bitner Invitational. He led the Maroons to the team title with an overall score of 307 on Monday, April 27.
Abi Rhoades, Black River soccer
The River Rats leader had two goals and two assists in an d8-0 win over Bridgman on Tuesday, April 28.
Harley Brown, Zeeland West tennis
The senior No. 2 singles player won in dominating straight sets against Holland to lead the Dux to a 7-1 win on Tuesday, April 28.
Andy Balke, Fennville soccer
The Blackhawk scored three goals in an 8-0 win over Coloma on Thursday, April 30.
Bella Goetche, Hamilton softball
The Hawkeyes shortstop tallied six hits, eight RBIs and eight runs scored in a sweep of Zeeland East, leading Hamilton to an 18-8 and 18-6 wins on Thursday, April 30.
Sophia Blauwkamp-Erin Meiste, Hamilton tennis
The Hawkeyes No. 1 doubles team defeated Holland Christian’s Kassie Evenhouse and Stella Klooster in a three-set thriller, 6-3, 2-6, 6-4, on Friday, May 1.
Emma Slotman, Hamilton soccer
The Hawkeyes senior scored a goal and dished out two assists in a 5-0 win over South Haven on Friday, May 1.
Malynn Wisdom, Holland Christian softball
The Maroons all-around threat pitched a complete game allowing four earned runs in a win over West Ottawa on Saturday, May 3. She had two RBIs in the game, then had a double and home run in the second game with three walks and four RBIs to lead the Maroons to the sweep.
Novella DeGraaf, Saugatuck track
The Trailblazers junior won the 100-meter hurdles in a school-record time of 15.24 to win the Shepherd Blue Jay Invitational on Friday, May 1. The previous record was held by Mazie Robison. She was also third in the pole vault (9-6).
Teague Ferlaak, Holland Christian lacrosse
The Maroons freshman allowed just two goals in the second half – and none in the final 18 minutes of the game to lead Holland Christian to a 10-9 win in the Battle for the Paddle on Saturday, May 2.
