Heat warning issued for Blue Water Area until 8 p.m.

A heat advisory will be in effect for the Blue Water area Tuesday, July 14 until 8 pm.

The National Weather Service announced the advisory Tuesday for several southeast Michigan counties, including St. Clair, Macomb, Lapeer and Sanilac. The advisory will last from noon until 8 p.m.

According to the advisory, the heat index in Southeast Michigan is expected to reach as high as 107 degrees. Combined with the area’s high humidity, people who stay outside long are at risk of heat-related illnesses.

The National Weather Service is advising people to stay out of the sun and stay inside in air conditioned rooms as much as possible. Those going outside should drink plenty of water while avoiding soda and alcohol. strenuous labor should be limited to the early morning and the evening, and those outside should wear light, loose-fitting clothes.

Children and pets should not be left alone in vehicles for any length of time, as the heat in cars can become fatal after just a few minutes in the sun.

Those with symptoms of heat exhaustion or heat stroke should head indoors immediately. Symptoms include heavy sweating, pale skin, dizziness, fatigue and fast breathing.
