NORTHVILLE — After a decade at Northville Park Place, Gazelle Sports is moving its local store into a century-old building at 117 E. Main Street, bringing the specialty athletic retailer into the heart of the city’s downtown business district.
An opening date is set for Wednesday, Aug. 13.
CEO and co-owner Jen Brummitt said the move reflects the company’s roots and values.
Founded in 1985 in downtown Kalamazoo, Gazelle Sports has long sought out vibrant downtown locations surrounded by local businesses and community partners.
“The retail stars aligned for this space to become available,” Brummitt said. “It has a beautiful selling floor, a basement for footwear storage, and the kind of old downtown character that feels like us.”
The new location, formerly home to Gardenviews at Home, reminds Brummitt of Gazelle Sports’ downtown Holland store, both in atmosphere and in the types of businesses nearby. She said the reception from fellow merchants and residents has been “phenomenal.”
“People have been saying, ‘We’re so glad you’re here—how can we help?’ That’s what we’re all about—building strong community partnerships and inspiring movement through exceptional experiences,” Brummitt said.
The store offers running footwear and apparel from popular brands like Brooks, Hoka, On, New Balance, Nike, and ASICS, along with apparel from Lululemon, Vuori, and Smartwool, plus Garmin devices and other movement-focused gear for both men and women.
New to the Northville location is a Volumental 3D foot scanner, which provides a detailed scan to help customers find the perfect footwear fit.
The store is led by managers Aleksandra Dalton and Patrick Whinnery, both longtime Gazelle Sports employees with more than a decade of experience each.
Gazelle Sports operates seven Michigan locations including Birmingham, Grandville, Holland, Kalamazoo and two in Grand Rapids in addition to the Northville location.
