A fully “smart” home has hit the Monroe County housing market after 15 months of construction.
At $850,000, the one and a half story home at 2706 South Custer Road in Monroe Township has most of its electronics, including lights, garage doors, hot water tanks, sink faucets, locks, and more, operating through a smart home system using Amazon’s Alexa.
“So, if you leave the house and you forgot to turn off the lights, you could turn them all of,” said James Warnick, owner of BW Custom Construction, which constructed and owns the house. “If you forgot to shut the garage door, you can shut the garage door.”
Warnick said that despite the high number of electronics in the house, the electric bill is meant to be smaller than usual. The lights are LED and everything is load controlled.
Warnick has built homes that integrated smart technology before, but not to this extent. He said he loves technology and the simplicity of it.
“It’s supposed to make your life easier,” he said. “I think that with AI and everything smart coming, I think this will be the new norm.”
The house has 2,942 square feet of living space and a total of 4,500 square feet under the roof. It has five bedrooms, three and a half baths, a full basement, nine-foot ceilings, and comes partially furnished. The design of the house intentionally brings together old and new.
“I have contemporary tastes, but we live in the country, so that’s why I wanted to do like contemporary, but farmhouse feel, I guess you could say,” Warnick said.
