Frozen chicken fried rice products sold at Trader Joe’s stores and exported to Canada have been recalled because they may be contaminated with glass, according to a notice from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service issued Feb. 19.
Ajinomoto Foods North America, Inc., based in Portland, Oregon, is recalling nearly 3.4 million pounds of frozen , not-ready-to-eat chicken fried rice products produced between Sept. 8, 2025, and Nov. 17, 2025, according to the recall notice. The products are subject to the recall because of consumers complaints regarding glass in the product, according to a recall notice from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).
The recall notice did not indicate the amount of pounds or packages shipped to Trader Joe’s stores or exported to Canada.
The products shipped to Trader Joe’s stores were 20 ounce plastic bag packages containing frozen “Trader Joe’s Chicken Fried Rice with stir fried rice, vegetables, seasoned dark chicken meat and eggs.” Trader Joe’s products have a best by date listed as 9/8/2026 through 11/17/2026.
In Canada, the product being recalled are 1.53-kg. cardboard packages containing 6 bags of frozen “Ajinomoto yakitori chicken with Japanese-style fried rice,” with best before/meilleur avant dates 26 SE 09 through 26 NO 12 listed on the package.
Recalled products will have the establishment number P-18356 inside the USDA mark of inspection.
Four consumers complained about finding glass in the product, according to the recall notice, but there have been no confirmed reports of injury from consuming the product.
Consumers should check freezers for the products and should not consume them. Consumers should throw the products away or return them to the place of purchase.
