The language on three recall petitions for Frenchtown Township board members was approved on Monday, May 11.
The language was approved during a clarity and factuality hearing by the Monroe County Board of Election Commissioners. The language for the reason for the proposed recalls of Al VanWashenova, Sheila Bussell, and Julie Ellison reads, “Attended a presentation by Cloverleaf Infrastructure representatives regarding a potential data center at 1500 N Dixie Hwy, Monroe, MI during a special boardmeeting on November 17, 2025.”
“I’m glad that the election commission approved the recall language and that it’s now in the hands of Frenchtown residents,” said Frenchtown Township resident Sarah Alcenius. “The recalls are about their repeated failure to listen to residents about the data center. We will begin collecting signatures Memorial Day weekend.”
Each board member has a separate recall petition. Each petition needs a minimum of 2,124 signatures by July 31 to be put on the November 2026 ballot.
