PETOSKEY — There have been no shortage of Petoskey High School athletes finding opportunities at the next level over recent years.
In the class of 2026, a few athletes made their collegiate selection during the winter signing period in February.
Just last week, a handful more joined them by making things official with college programs.
The current wave of athletes from the spring signing session will all enter programs with a focus on a potential second stop, as all four athletes inked with community colleges.
Three are currently wrapping up their high school careers on the baseball and softball fields this spring, while one put a bow on his high school career in the fall.
A look at those athletes and where they’re heading below.
Tyler Pool, Baseball
College of Marin (Calif.)
There are plenty of qualities the state of California does not lack. Two of those are great weather and great baseball players.
Petoskey senior Tyler Pool will see both in his next stop at the College of Marin.
Located in the Bay Area, heading north across the Golden Gate Bridge from San Fransisco, the College of Marin holds a deep history of success in baseball, which has included sending 42 players to professional ball, including nine since 2010.
Pool will join a team that most recently completed a 27-15 season and 15-6 conference record.
During his final season with the Northmen, Pool has batted .389 with six doubles and 13 RBIs, while adding 20 2/3 innings pitched and 19 strikeouts. He’s held a 1.02 ERA for the season.
When he’s not on the mound, he can be found between first and second base.
He returned as the lone starter within the lineup this season for the Petoskey varsity after a state quarterfinal run a year ago.
Alexis Cadarette, Softball
Kalamazoo Valley Community College
Alexis Cadarette may be graduating in a few weeks from Petoskey High School, but the Petoskey softball record books will carry her name for years to come.
Cadarette has left quite the stamp on her career and she’s not done yet.
Already with season records for hits (69), runs (61) and stolen bases (43), the PHS senior is chasing down breaking her own hits record in her final season, currently at 59.
She was an easy choice to sign on with the Kalamazoo Valley women’s softball program, who recently completed a 22-22 season.
Cadarette has the Northmen competitive in the midst of hitting .596 at the plate, with 18 extra-base hits, 30 RBIs and 44 runs scored as a leadoff hitter. She’s also added 24 steals.
Naturally, that speed slots in nicely in center field, where she holds a .909 fielding percentage.
Jordan Malec, Softball
Alpena Community College
The Petoskey softball team had plenty of firepower back to the lineup when the 2026 season began. The one thing they were missing? A strong pitcher.
Quickly, Malec filled that void.
Petoskey’s dominant arm throughout the season in the circle, Malec has gone 70 2/3 innings with 85 strikeouts and a 10-3 record, doing so behind a 3.36 ERA.
She’s also delivered big at-bats, hitting for a .356 average with four doubles and 15 RBIs.
She’ll head to an Alpena program that’s pulled well from northern Michigan programs of late under head coach Drew Ornelas, which includes a pair from the BNC already.
Ethan Goulet, Soccer
Jackson College
There was just one season on the Petoskey varsity boys soccer team for Ethan Goulet to show off his talent against some strong competition.
Goulet made it count.
After transferring over from Cheboygan, Goulet became one of Petoskey’s top scoring threats as an attacking mid and closed his final season with 12 goals and seven assists.
The campaign earned him first team All-Big North Conference recognition.
Goulet grew up through and developed his skills in the Petoskey Youth Soccer Association and now joins a competitive Michigan Community College Athletic Association Western Conference at the next level.
