A once Spartans commit in football has hit his first career home run in the show.
Former Spartans commit Jase Bowen hit his first career home run with the San Diego Padres on Friday. The video of the home run can be seen in the embedded video below:
Bowen, originally from Toledo, Ohio, was a three-star wide receiver prospect in the 2019 class and committed to Michigan State out of high school. He signed with the Spartans — then led by Mark Dantonio — during the early signing period but ultimately elected to pursue a career in baseball.
Bowen was selected by the Padres in the MLB Draft in 2019, which ultimately led to him electing to play baseball instead of football for the Spartans. He was called up by the Padres earlier this year, and has appeared in 40 games this season with San Diego. Across 60 at bats, he has a batting average of .167, one home run and six runs batted in (RBIs).
