CLEARWATER, Fla. ― Just a couple of years ago, sisters Jayden and Aubrey Jones were two of the most feared softball stars in Michigan, helping guide Gaylord High School’s program to back-to-back state championships in 2023 and 2024.
You can still find the Jones sisters making impacts on the diamond, just as Cowgirls, not Blue Devils. And the plays they’re making now are making a difference on a larger, national scale.
Jayden, Aubrey and the No. 23 Oklahoma State Cowgirls took the diamond against a talented field at the Clearwater Invitational this past weekend, finishing Friday, Feb. 13, with back-to-back games against top ten opponents, No. 8 Texas A&M and No. 7 UCLA.
Both sisters starred in the Cowgirls’ upset win over the Aggies in Game 1, both recording extra base hits in a 9-8 victory, while Jayden was the hero of OSU’s 4-3 win over UCLA as her hit in the bottom of the eighth turned out to be a walk-off winner as the throw home sailed over the catcher’s head.
Jayden Jones, a transfer portal addition for Oklahoma State, joined the team in the offseason after spending her freshman year at Virginia Tech. She now has three hits and two runs batted in through six games played, while Aubrey, a freshman, has six hits and four RBIs.
OSU (6-3) has one more game in Clearwater tomorrow, Feb. 14 vs. No. 19 Duke at 10 a.m. ET on ESPN2, available to be streamed on Fubo, Sling or ESPN+.
