Two bridges in Monroe County will be closed until fall pending their replacement.
According to the Monroe County weekly road watch, Grafton Road between Newburg and Will Carleton Roads, and North County Line Highway between Cone and Welch Roads, will be closed while the bridges are replaced. Work began on Grafton Road on July 27 and County Line Highway on July 20.
“Both existing bridges are at or near the end of their service lives and are in conditions that warrant replacement to ensure the continued safety and reliability of the roadway network,” said Matthew Snell, Monroe County Road Commission director of engineering.
The County Line Highway bridge, in Milan Township, is being funded by the Michigan Department of Transportation, costing $1,975,000. It’s expected to be complete on Oct. 30. The other, in Ash Township, is funded by the Monroe County Road Commission and costs $750,000. It’s set to end on Nov. 15.
“During construction, the road closures will affect all traffic, including emergency services and school buses,” Snell said. “Motorists are encouraged to avoid these areas and follow the posted detour routes.”
For the Ash Township project, the detour follows Sigler, Exeter, Carleton West, and Will Carleton Roads. The one in Ash Township follows Cone, Dennison, and Hickory Roads. Both roads are closed.
