MONROE — After celebrating on the red carpet, local actor Michael James Alexander is talking about his latest film, “Finding Nicole.”
Made in Michigan, the movie shares the journey of Nicole Beverly, a domestic violence survivor. Her ex-husband is in prison. He attempted to hire an ex-convict to kill her and their children.
“It’s a true story and there are some trigger warnings for some who may have suffered from domestic violence,” Alexander said. “There’s even a book about it. Nicole wrote about what it was like living with domestic violence. Chris Cuomo from CNN came here and did a special on her situation. They were the perfect couple. He became a cop and then he became a monster.”
Directed by Harley Whalen, writers are Nicole Beverly, Geoffrey D. Calhoun and Whalen.
The cast includes Richard Tyson as Judge Carter, Sean Whalen as Cameron Banks and Kaiti Wallen as Nicole Beverly.
Alexander, who has acted in more than 60 different movies and projects, has a major role in the film as Baz, a bad guy turned hero.
“I play the guy Nicole’s husband tried to get to kill her and her children,” he said.
The film is available to rent or own on cable, satellite and digital platforms like Apple TV and Prime Video.
Alexander says he’s always been creative and acting is just one way of expressing who he is.
His first television appearance was in the early 1980s on a dance show, and he did some commercial work. A mini biography and list of movie credits can be found on IMDb, an online database of information related to films, TV series, podcasts, home videos and content streaming online.
When he’s not filming, he can be found at his downtown Monroe business, Alexander Studio, 27 W. Front St., where he specializes in custom jewelry design and watch repair along with commissioned art.
He’s considering offering art and dance classes in the future.
“I was born an artist,” he said. “I’d like to teach kids who are art driven or creative. Growing up, nothing like that was ever offered. I didn’t having anyone teaching me how to draw or paint. There’s nothing like that going on here.”
