Fayette Township officials are advancing a proposed one-year moratorium on new wind, battery storage and data center projects, with final approval expected in August.
The Fayette Township Planning Commission is recommending the pause at the direction of the Fayette Township Board, and will next send a resolution for review to the Hillsdale County Planning Commission.
According to reporting from WCSR, the moratorium wouldn’t apply to solar energy developments. Fayette Township already has solar panels installed through Ranger Power’s Heartwood I, which encompasses former farmland mostly west of Jonesville.
The moratorium proposal follows the municipality’s recent denial of a special use permit request from Ranger Power for a nearly 1,400-acre Heartwood II.
If adopted, the moratorium would temporarily halt consideration of the listed large-scale energy and infrastructure projects, giving officials time to review ordinances and regulatory approaches.
