Detroit's Green Dot Stables hosts slider eating contest

Fancy yourself an aspiring Joey Chestnut? Here is your shot to show off your competitive eating chops.

Days after Chestnut earned his 18th Mustard Belt title, devouring 66 hot dogs and buns in the annual July Fourth hot dog eating contest, Detroit’s own Green Dot Stables announced plans for its first-ever slider eating contest.

Slated to take place 6-8 p.m. this Thursday, July 16, the Green Dot Stables slider contest is a race to see who can eat 12 cheeseburger sliders the fastest. There’s a $25 contest entry fee, and the winner receives a $100 gift card.

Green Dot Stables is on Lafayette on the outskirts of downtown Detroit and a few blocks from Corktown. Behind Green Dot Stables is InLaws Hospitality. The group is also behind Detroit’s Johnny Noodle King and Yellow Light Coffee and Donuts. Green Dot Stables is well known as a slider joint with a menu that includes a variety of them. Its online menu lists classic slider burgers and cheeseburgers, plus corned beef sliders, an olive burger slider and mystery meat. There are also sides of fries, including truffle and herb, poutine and Cajun seasoned.

If you think you can eat a dozen sliders faster than anyone, sign up for Green Dot Stables slider race on Eventbrite.com.
