The Detroit Tigers haven’t been playing so well as of late, and they’ve seen their lead in the American League Central drop to 3½ games as a result.
But the Tigers still have nine more regular-season games to cement their place atop the division, starting with a three-game weekend home series against the Atlanta Braves from Friday, Sept. 19 through Sunday, Sept. 21.
It’s sure to be a tough test, with the Braves entering the 2025 season as a World Series favorite with a host of top-tier talent up and down the roster. However, Atlanta (70-83) has had an underwhelming season, currently sitting in fourth place in the National League East and 21 games behind the division-leading Philadelphia Phillies.
But the Braves, without much left to play for in the regular season, can take the role of spoiler this weekend against a Tigers team fighting to avoid a historic regular-season collapse.
Additionally, this Braves series is the last regular-season series at Comerica Park in 2025. With a good showing down the stretch, the Tigers can guarantee themselves at least a couple of home playoff games in 2025, but that’s likely going to require more than just a couple of wins to finish out the season.
Here’s what you need to know about a hugely important home series for the Tigers.
