Detroit Lions trade rumors and updates from 2025 NFL trade deadline

The Detroit Lions stayed put at the deadline.

Ahead of the 2025 NFL trade deadline on Tuesday, Nov. 4, Lions coach Dan Campbell said he wasn’t anticipating his team to make many moves, if any at all, to acquire players and bolster the roster. And true to his prediction, the Lions did not make any trades despite a high-flying deadline from teams like the New York Jets, Dallas Cowboys and New Orleans Saints.

Some fans are sure to be disappointed with the lack of a trade deadline move, especially with how the Lions looked in their most recent game.

In one of the most disappointing results of the season, the Lions lost 27-24 to the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, Nov. 2. They exposed significant depth issues to the roster in the process, with multiple key offensive linemen going down with injuries and an ongoing need for starting-caliber defensive backs with injuries to starting cornerback D.J. Reed and All-Pro safety Kerby Joseph.

But as the deadline moves showed, the Lions will mostly be working with the players they already have on the roster.

Here were the Lions trade deadline updates and key NFL deals that affect the market.

Lions don’t make any NFL trade deadline deals

The Lions announced two roster moves on Tuesday, releasing tight end Kenny Yeboah and releasing offensive lineman Justin Herron.

Other than that, the Lions did not make a deal, keeping their draft capital and going forward in the 2025 season with the players already on the roster.

Breece Hall, Quincy Williams, Jermaine Johnson not traded

The New York Jets made waves today by trading star cornerback Sauce Gardner to the Indianapolis Colts and defensive tackle Quinnen Williams to the Dallas Cowboys.

It was by all accounts a fire-sale for a 1-7 team, but it could have been a bigger one. However, the Jets have decided to hang on to running back Breece Hall, linebacker Quincy Williams and edge rusher Jermaine Johnson II despite Hall’s reported desire to be traded.

Trevor Penning traded to Chargers

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the New Orleans Saints are trading offensive lineman Trevor Penning to the Los Angeles Chargers.

Penning was the Saints’ first-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, going 19th overall. He has played in 46 games and made 29 starts in his four-year career.

At 1-8, the Saints were active sellers at the deadline. The Chargers, meanwhile, are 6-3 in a hotly-contested AFC West division and are looking to create some separation between them and the 5-4 Kansas City Chiefs. They needed some help at tackle, however, with starting left tackle Joe Alt expected to be out for the rest of the 2025 season with an ankle injury.

Hendon Hooker released by Panthers

Per NFL insider Ari Meirov, the Carolina Panthers are releasing quarterback Hendon Hooker.

Hooker was the Lions’ third-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft (No. 68 overall) and competed for the backup quarterback role during his three years in Detroit, appearing in three games in 2024. Hooker lost out to quarterback Kyle Allen after a rough 2025 preseason stretch, however, before the Lions released him on Aug. 25.

The Panthers added Hooker to the practice squad two days later and elevated him to the active roster on Oct. 25, only to release him 11 days after.

Lions add offensive lineman to practice squad

Per the NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Lions have added offensive lineman Jack Conley to the practice squad.

Conley was a five-year player out of Boston College from 2020-24 and joined the New England Patriots practice squad as an undrafted signee in 2025.

Though he has not played in an NFL game, Conley is listed at 6-foot-7 and 333 pounds, which would make him one of the biggest players on the team.

Jets want a second-round pick for Jermaine Johnson

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the New York Jets are asking for a second-round pick for edge rusher Jermaine Johnson, who has been in trade discussions. Fowler expects Johnson to remain with the team, however.

Johnson was the No. 26 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft and has made 24 starts for the Jets in his four seasons with the team. He got some pre-draft buzz from when the Lions had the No. 2 overall pick in 2022, which they eventually used on star edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson.

Jets trade Quinnen Williams to Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys keep dealing.

The Cowboys traded for New York Jets defensive tackle Quinnen Williams in another blockbuster trade involving the Jets, as first reported by Jordan Schultz. The Cowboys are sending a first-round draft pick and defensive tackle Mazi Smith in return for Williams.

The All-Pro defender has played for the Jets for seven seasons between 2019-25, starting in 94 games and making three Pro Bowls. He has 40 total sacks in his career but only one through eight games so far in 2025.

Bears acquire a Browns edge rusher

An NFC North team has traded for an edge rusher — but it’s not the Lions.

Per CBS’s Jonathan Jones, the Chicago Bears traded for Cleveland Browns edge rusher Joe Tryon-Shoyinka, a former first-round pick from the 2021 NFL Draft.

Tryon-Shoyinka spent his first four seasons from 2021-24 in Tampa Bay, where he recorded 15 sacks over 45 starts. His role has diminished since joining the Browns in 2025, however, as he has recorded zero starts and zero sacks over eight games in 2025.

D.J. Reed’s reaction to Sauce Gardner trade: ‘Bro’

Lions cornerback D.J. Reed, currently on injured reserve, was on the New York Jets with recently-traded superstar Sauce Gardner from 2022-24.

He shared his reaction to Gardner being traded to the Indianapolis Colts, which boiled down to one word (plus a few emojis):

Rashid Shaheed traded to Seahawks

Per the NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the New Orleans Saints are trading wide receiver Rashid Shaheed to the Seattle Seahawks. According to Jordan Schultz, the Saints are getting back a fourth and fifth-round pick.

The fourth-year Shaheed is having a career year, tied for 18th in the NFL with 44 receptions, second on the Saints to Chris Olave (55). He should bring a boost to a Seahawks offense led by quarterback Sam Darnold, who is leading the league with 9.6 yards per pass attempts while adding 16 touchdown passes through eight games.

Sauce Gardner traded to Colts

In the biggest trade of deadline day so far, star New York Jets cornerback Sauce Gardner has been traded to the Indianapolis Colts per the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Colts are sending two first-round picks in return for Gardner.

Gardner, a Detroit King graduate, is a two-time All-Pro player who was named the 2022 Defensive Rookie of the Year. He has started 55 games in his four seasons with the Jets and defended a league-high 20 passes in his rookie season.

The Colts have been arguably the biggest surprise in the NFL, sporting a 7-2 record and leading the AFC South. The Jets, meanwhile, have a 1-7 record under first-year coach (and former Lions’ defensive coordinator) Aaron Glenn.

Jakobi Meyers traded to Jaguars

The Jacksonville Jaguars just got some help at wide receiver following injuries to rookie Travis Hunter and second-year wideout Brian Thomas.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Las Vegas Raiders are sending receiver Jakobi Meyers to the Jaguars in exchange for a fourth and sixth-round pick. Meyers is set to be a free agent following the end of the 2025 season.

Meyers was one of the most productive receivers in the league in 2024, putting up his first-career 1,000+ yard season and hauling in 87 catches over 15 games. Alongside receiver Parker Washington, Meyers should help bolster the passing game of a 5-3 Jags squad looking to make the playoffs for the first time since 2022.

Dan Campbell: Eagles trades won’t pressure Lions

During his weekly radio interview on Tuesday morning, Lions coach Dan Campbell was asked if the flurry of trade activity from the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles has put any pressure on the Lions to make moves.

His response? “I’ll be honest, that’s never crossed my mind … I don’t see it that way.”

The Eagles traded for cornerbacks Michael Carter II and Jaire Alexander last week and acquired what many believed to be the top edge rusher on the market in Miami’s Jaelan Phillips on Monday. But even after the Eagles made those the acquisitions, Campbell says the Lions are going to stay the course.

“We’re going to do what we feel like is right for us, and the right fit at the right price with the right guys. And we’ve always been that way. We’re not changing our stripes.”

Frank Ragnow not coming out of retirement

With the Lions needing help on their offensive line, some fans have been wondering whether longtime center Frank Ragnow would come out of retirement to rejoin the Lions.

Lions coach Dan Campbell was asked about that possibility during his weekly radio interview on WXYT-FM 97.1 on Tuesday morning, and he shot it down completely.

“If Frank really wanted to he would be blowing my phone up and I haven’t gotten a text yet. So I think Frank is feeling good about his decision,” he said.

Campbell also said that the Lions have been looking for offensive line options on the trade market, even though it’s difficult to find starting offensive linemen near the deadline.

“It’s hard to get rid of them if you’re the other team, so if you are, you’re going to ask an astronomical amount because the later the season goes it’s hard to find bigs.”

Logan Wilson traded to Cowboys

As first reported by the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Cincinnati Bengals traded linebacker Logan Wilson to the Dallas Cowboys for a seventh-round draft pick.

Wilson is a six-year pro out of Wyoming who has played for the Bengals since he was drafted in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft. He recorded at least 55 solo tackles in every season from 2021-24 and has started in 65 games over his time in Cincinnati.

Dre’Mont Jones traded to Ravens

Another edge rusher is off the market.

According to the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Baltimore Ravens traded for Tennessee Titans edge rusher Dre’Mont Jones, sending a conditional fifth-round draft pick that could become a fourth-rounder in return.

After starting the season 1-5, the Ravens have won their last two games and have propped themselves back up in the AFC North race. Jones can provide a big boost to their pass rush, as the seven-year pro has recorded 4½ sacks through nine games with the Titans in 2025.

Commanders open to trading Andrew Wylie and Nick Allegretti

Stuck at 3-6 and potentially without starting quarterback Jayden Daniels for the rest of the season, the Washington Commanders may be in sell mode as the trade deadline approaches.

According to Jordan Schultz, the Commanders are considering trading offensive lineman Andrew Wylie and Nick Allegretti, who were both two-time Super Bowl-winners with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2019 and 2022 (with Allegretti adding a third in Kansas City in 2023).

Wylie is a longtime impact player, making 92 starts at multiple offensive line positions in his eight NFL seasons. Allegretti, meanwhile, has much less starting experience, becoming a full-time starter in his sixth season in 2024 before being relegated to backup role once again in 2025. As a full-time guard, however, Allegretti could potentially fill in for Lions guard Christian Mahogany, who is likely out for a while after breaking his leg against the Minnesota Vikings.

Taylor Decker and Penei Sewell likely avoided long-term injuries

In his Monday news conference, Lions coach Dan Campbell said that left tackle Taylor Decker and right tackle Penei Sewell likely won’t be practicing on Wednesday. However, he also thinks that both avoided a long-term injury.

That’s good news and provides clarity for a Lions team built around its offensive line.

Offensive guard Christian Mahogany, meanwhile, suffered a broken leg in Sunday’s loss to the Vikings — though Campbell still thinks he will be able to return this season.

Minkah Fitzpatrick available for trade

After trading edge rusher Jaelan Phillips to the Philadelphia Eagles, the Miami Dolphins have made three-time Pro Bowl safety Minkah Fitzpatrick available in trade talks, according to the Miami Herald, with Omar Kelly saying a source says it’s a “50-50 chance” a deal gets done.

Fitzpatrick carries a near-$19 million cap hit for the 2026 season, making him a potentially expensive player to carry on the roster for any team who decides to acquire him. But as a five-time Pro Bowler, he has also been one of the most decorated safeties in the NFL over his eight-year career.

Trey Hendrickson trade asking price from Bengals

The most prized edge rusher on the market is likely the Cincinnati Bengals’ Trey Hendrickson, who has recorded 39 sacks over his last three seasons with the Bengals.

According to The Athletic’s Diana Russini, the asking price for Hendrickson is a first-round pick — possibly a reason he hasn’t been moved yet.

The Lions have a first-round pick available in the 2026, 2027 and 2028 drafts, though it’s unclear whether they would part with one of them for a short-term rental like Hendrickson, whose $29 million contract expires after the 2025 season. The Lions have plenty of cap space available.

Evan Neal available for trade

Offensive linemen can be more difficult to acquire around the trade deadline than edge rushers or cornerbacks, but it’s not an impossible task for a Lions team in need of some help on the front line.

Per ESPN’s Jordan Raanan, the New York Giants have made offensive lineman Evan Neal available in trade talks. Neal, the former No. 7 overall pick from Alabama in the 2022 NFL Draft, has started 27 games over four NFL seasons, all with the Giants, and has graded out especially well as a run blocker according to Pro Football Focus. He was active on gameday for the first time in Week 9.

In 2024, Neal played in nine games for the Giants with seven starts at right tackle. At Alabama, he started 13 games at left guard in 2019, 12 at right tackle in 2020 and 15 at left tackle in 2021.

Should the Lions acquire Neal, it could provide some relief for a banged-up offensive line, with both tackles, Taylor Decker and Penei Sewell, nursing injuries, and a hole at left guard.

Jaelan Phillips traded to the Eagles

A top trade target for the Lions is off the board.

The Miami Dolphins early Monday traded edge rusher Jaelan Phillips to the Philadelphia Eagles for a third-round draft pick. Phillips is a five-year pro who has recorded 26 sacks in his career, though injury-plagued seasons have limited him to just four since the beginning of 2024.

Phillips, the No. 18 overall pick in 2021, had been linked to the Lions as an edge rushing candidate to pair with star Aidan Hutchinson, who just received a four-year, $180 million contract extension on Wednesday.
