Detroit Auto Dealers' head departs amid planning for 2027 show

The Detroit Auto Dealers Association announced a leadership transition on April 30, effective immediately.

The organization, which also puts on the Detroit Auto Show, said in a statement that DADA Executive Director Sam Klemet is leaving, and the organization is now actively pursuing a new executive director.

The transition is being directed by the DADA’s Executive Committee, led by President Katie Coleman and 2027 Detroit Auto Show Chairman Lincoln Phillip, according to the statement.

The statement said the committee will oversee operations and lead the search for the next executive director while former Executive Chair Rod Alberts “will support the Executive Committee and leadership team going forward.”

Founded in 1907, the DADA represents nearly 300 new vehicle dealerships in southeast Michigan. Planning is underway for the 2027 Detroit Auto Show, scheduled for Jan. 12-24.

Klemet, who joined the DADA in 2024, said in a statement that it has been a privilege to serve the DADA and work alongside its leaders and members.

“At this time, I’ve made the decision to pursue other professional opportunities, and I wish the organization continued success in the years ahead,” Klemet said.

Klemet joined the organization after a career in broadcast journalism, working as a producer and news director at a number of commercial and public stations in Indiana, Minnesota and Illinois, the organization said when he was hired.  He also served as president and CEO of the Michigan Association of Broadcasters.
