A 60-year-old Dearborn Heights man accused of trying to meet someone police say he thought was a teen has been charged with two felonies.
Bradley Kyle Martin was arraigned Thursday in 52-1 District Court in Novi, the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office said.
He is charged with using a computer to commit a crime and accosting a child for immoral purposes.
A magistrate set Martin’s bond at $75,000, according to authorities. Court records said his next hearing is scheduled for July 8.
If convicted, he faces up to 10 years in prison for using a computer to commit a crime and up to four years for accosting a child for immoral purposes.
Court records did not list an attorney for Martin on Friday.
Officials said Martin was arrested after sheriff’s deputies investigated allegations that he tried to meet someone whom he believed to be a 13-year-old girl after communicating with her online. He later tried to meet the teen girl in Highland Township, according to authorities.
Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said he encourages anyone who encounters suspected child exploitation or online predatory behavior to report it immediately to law enforcement.
“We have zero tolerance for predators of children,” he said in a statement. “Anyone who has information about a person targeting a child should contact the sheriff’s office immediately in such situations. We will investigate and prosecute individuals involved in predatory activity to the fullest extent of the law.”
The case is among the most recent in which a Michigan resident has been accused of accosting a child for immoral purposes.
Earlier this month, a Utah man was charged with accosting a minor for immoral purposes in connection with an alleged child abduction attempt in Livingston County.
Last month, a Mount Pleasant man pleaded guilty to several charges, including accosting a minor, after being arrested in connection with a firebombing and child sex crime probe.
A Bloomfield Township man who allegedly asked someone he thought was a teen for sex in an online chat was charged last month.
