Croswell-Lexington completes record-setting season at MHSAA boys tennis state finals

MIDLAND — Back in September, after watching his team topple two conference opponents, Croswell-Lexington boys tennis coach Scott Cummings realized something.

“Imlay City and Yale were going to be our toughest competition in the BWAC,” Cummings said. “We beat both of those teams in duals pretty handily. So, that was when I thought, maybe, we could make a run at (the league championship).”

While the Pioneers eventually ran away with their first-ever BWAC title, the program’s run extended far beyond the Blue Water Area.

Cros-Lex capped a record-setting season at the MHSAA Division 4 state finals at Midland Tennis Center on Monday, Oct. 20.

The Pioneers, who were making their first finals appearance since 2011, finished with four team points — more than their past three appearances combined.

“It’s hard to put into words,” Cummings said of the Pioneers’ 2025 season. “It’s been a long time coming. We had several years where we didn’t even have enough (players) for a full team … we had some rough years that we went through, but this was just as good as it gets.”

It was an experience Cummings shared alongside his two sons, Matthew and Evan, who are both on the team. Matthew was named the BWAC MVP earlier this month (another first for the program).

In addition to Cros-Lex, Imlay City was the other area school that competed in the Division 4 finals. Below are the final results for both teams.
