Comstock Park home explodes killing 1, injuring another

A home explosion in Comstock Park, near Grand Rapids, left one person dead and another injured on Tuesday, May 26, investigators said, in what may have been a murder-suicide attempt.

Evidence and phone data collected during the investigation are leading officials to believe that the explosion was caused intentionally by the male occupant, who was found dead, according to the Kent County Police.

The second victim, a woman, was pulled from the fire by two neighbors was treated on scene and transported to the hospital where she was in critical condition on Tuesday.

At approximately 4 a.m. Tuesday, officers received about 50 calls about an explosion and house fire in the 5700 block of Rollaway Drive, north of Grand Rapids.

Fire personnel found the home completely destroyed.

The investigation remains active and ongoing, officials say.
