Colt Keith scratched vs Astros with wrist injury after falling Monday

HOUSTON – Colt Keith is injured.

The Detroit Tigers scratched Keith on Tuesday, June 16, from the second of three games against the Houston Astros at Daikin Park. The 24-year-old is dealing with right wrist soreness.

The injury stems from Monday’s 9-3 win.

In Monday’s game, Keith hit three home runs and drove in six runs to carry the offense, but he also made a spectacular play at third base for the final out in the seventh inning. The play required an off-balance, on-the-run throw in foul territory.

After the throw, Keith tripped on the grass and fell to the ground.

That’s when he suffered the right wrist injury.

“I tripped on the grass,” Keith said after Monday’s game. “I think everyone was watching the ball when I threw it. I felt super unathletic there.”

For Tuesday’s game, Keith was supposed to bat sixth as the designated hitter against Astros right-hander Hunter Brown.

Instead, the Tigers slotted Wenceel Pérez into the starting lineup as the right fielder in the sixth spot, while Kerry Carpenter shifted to designated hitter.

In 2026, Keith is hitting .267 with four home runs − with all four homers in his past four games − 11 walks and 43 strikeouts across 66 games. He has registered minus-two defensive runs saved in 209⅔ innings at third base.

The severity of the wrist injury is unknown.

“I love it when he smiles on the field,” manager A.J. Hinch said after Monday’s game. “He’s so serious, but I know he got to a couple of balls and got rewarded for it. Big night for him.”
