STURGIS — The third week of the high school football season in Michigan has come and gone. Now, here’s a chance to check out all of the local top performers in one place. Each of these footballers will be up for the athlete of the week, presented by Glen Oaks Community College once again.
That poll will be live from Tuesday morning to Friday at noon. Here are this week’s best performances on the gridiron:
Owen Gorham, Mendon
Gorham ran over Concord defenders to the tune of 160 yards on Friday, in just nine carries. He scored three times in the game, which was won by the Hornets, 56-26.
JT Lux, Mendon
Lux, the fullback that often times blocks for Gorham, had a big game as well on Friday. He only ran for 54 yards on 10 carries, but also scored three touchdowns for the Hornets in the big win over Concord.
Spencer Losinski, Bronson
Losinski helped lead Bronson to w strong win over Hartford on Friday. He pitched it for four touchdowns on 16 completions, compiling 239 yards through the air. He also ran in a touchdown for five total scores.
Dalton Hoard, Bronson
Hoard caught two of Losinski’s TD passes, finishing with six catches for 109 yards. He also intercepted a pass and returned it for a touchdown in Bronson’s 46-19 win over Hartford.
Taylor Stewart, White Pigeon
Stewart, who has won the athlete of the week honors before, is once again nominated. Stewart rumbled for 204 yards in the Chief win over Cassopolis, 72-12. He scored three times in the game.
Kaynen Ledyard, Burr Oak
Ledyard, last week’s winner of the athlete of the week award, is nominated again. He rushed for 165 yards on 10 carries in Burr Oak’s win over North Adams-Jerome on Friday, scoring three touchdowns. Ledyard also led the Bobcat defense with 10 tackles in the game.
Matthew Bates, Centreville
Bates rushed for only 54 yards in Centreville’s 41-8 win over Comstock. It was more of a dominate by committee effort for the Bulldogs, but they took care of business in the win. Bates rumbled for a pair of touchdowns in the game.
Mason Awe, Three Rivers
Awe threw for a pair of touchdowns in the Wildcat win over Otsego on Friday. He finished with a rushing touchdown as well in the game, a 31-6 victory.
