Charyl Stockwell girls track wins MIAC championship

Charyl Stockwell followed up its girls track and field regional championship by winning the Michigan Independent Athletic Conference title on Tuesday, May 19 at Whitmore Lake High School.

The Sentinels scored 125 points to win by 13 over Whitmore Lake. Stockwell’s boys were third with 94, 32 behind first-place Plymouth Christian.

Stockwell senior Ella Heffner won the 1,600-meter run in 5 minutes, 32.14 seconds and the 800 in 2:28.99. Becka Lethorn won the MIAC pole vault championship for the third time by clearing 9 feet.

Sprinters Lauren Hammond and Jessica LeFeve piled up points for the Sentinels. Hammond was second in the 200 in 26.47 seconds, third in the 100 in 13.06 and was on the second-place 800 relay. LeFeve was second in long jump at 15-4, fourth in the 100 at 13.29, fourth in the 200 at 27.46 and was on the 800 relay team.

The only first-place finish for Stockwell’s boys came in the 400 where Beckett Fitch posted a time of 51.31.

CAAC Red, White, Blue Showcase

Connell Hardenbrook was third in the 400 in 50.98 and Peyton Brooks was fourth in long jump at 14-11 to lead Fowlerville.

Boys golf

Brighton 149, Hartland 150

Fifth-ranked Brighton edged fourth-ranked Hartland by one shot in a match that featured eight of 20 players breaking 40 at Dunham Hills Golf Club.

Hartland’s Aidan Oake shot 1-under-par 34 to take medalist honors. Brighton’s Brandon Lovejoy shot 35.

Brighton’s other top golfers were Brayden Gregg with a 37, Dom D’Agosta with a 38, and Brady Bissett and Will Hanna with 39s. Also breaking 40 for Hartland were Wyatt Johnson with a 36 and Ethan Hawkins with a 37 .

Howell 147, Plymouth 156

Howell took the first three spots, with Oliver Heikkinen shooting 1-under 34, Egan Sturos 36 and Anson Forsyth 37.

CAAC Red championship

Fowlerville sophomore Axel Daavettila tied for second with a 79, one shot back of Haslett medalist RJ Zecchino of Haslett.

SEC White championship

Pinckney shot 343 to finish third out of seven teams at Leslie Park Golf Course in Ann Arbor. Emmett Edin was fourth with an 80 and Ben Karolak 11th with an 86 for the Pirates.

Girls lacrosse

Brighton 23, Ann Arbor Huron 0

Mia Balogh and Maggie Burchfield scored four goals each, while Kelly McKaig had two goals and four assists to lead Brighton in its playoff opener.

Chloe House, Isabella Orton, Carina Marzban and Hanna Ramirez score twice.

Clarkston 16, Howell 8

Janie Mitter had three goals and one assist, Nora Rioux scored twice and Isabelle Berendt had 20 saves for Howell in a regional quarterfinal loss.

Softball

Livonia Franklin 7-9, Howell 6-3

Lily Hoag drove in two runs and Leighton Scott was 2-for-4 for Howell in the first game. Kennedy Stone and Zoey Overton had two hits in the nightcap.
