CLARE — Both the Centreville and Constantine track and field teams competed on Saturday.
The schools were in attendance at the Division 3 Michigan Interscholastic Track Coaches Association team state finals. The Constantine boys finished seventh overall (1395.5 points), Centreville came in eighth (1360.5 points). For the girls, Centreville finished 11th (967) and Constantine (858.5) was 13th overall.
The teams combined to post 30 overall Top 10 finishes, including a pair of top overall spots.
The Constantine mile relay team grabbed one of those top overall spots. The team of Jaedyn Herlein, Abigail Flores, Kailee Jones and Kaitlyn Jones paced the field with a time of 4:13.26.
Matthew Bates of Centreville earned first place overall in the shot put. His distance was 50-feet, 3-inches in the event. Bates also finished third overall in the discus competition at 143-6. Canon Manley of Constantine was eighth in the discus at 134-3, Brandon Long came in 10th in the shot put at 44-0.5 for the competition.
Ethan Miller’s time of 50.46 was good for second overall in the 400 meter run for Centreville. Constantine’s Brody Jones was eighth at 53.09.
A trio of Top 5 finishes for the Centreville girls came in the field events. Kaylyn Coney was fourth overall in the high jump at 4-10, Lena Reed was fifth in the shot put at 32-4.5 and Mary Stears finished 10th overall in the discus at 87-1.
Tyler Coney’s clearance of 5-10 was good for eighth place in the high jump.
Both school finishes Top 10 in the two-mile relay for the boys. The Constantine team of Alessandro Avila, Aaron Hofmeister, Bear Geibe and Robbie King ran a time of 8:26.10 for third place. Centreville’s team of Oliver Mildenberg, Henry Sloat, Micaiah Sylvester and Will Hulin finished sixth at 8:45.12.
The Centreville girls placed seventh in the mile relay. The squad of Berkley Shingledecker, Mara Webb, Ellie Reed and Coney posted 4:26.60.
Constantine’s boys were seventh in the mile relay. Logan Patmalnieks, Geibe, Brody Jones and King ran a time of 3:35.66 in that race.
For the 400 relay, Centreville was third for the boys. Bates, Dylan Schwartz, Carter Cartier and Deandre Sout finished at 44.58 for the competition. The girls team of Nevaeh Prichard, Leah Roberts, Shingledecker and Coney ran 53.11 to finish eighth.
Geibe ran a time of 2:04.15 for sixth in the 800. Avila ran 4:40.15 in the mile for seventh, Hulin came in ninth at 4:40.44. Hulin also ran a time of 10:07.86 to finish sixth in the two-mile run. Avila posted 10:07.96 for seventh.
In the 110 hurdles, Justin Hendrix ran 16.11 for 10th.
Kailee Jones was second overall in the 800 for Constantine. Her time was 2:25.41. Shingledecker came in 10th position at 2:34.25. Kaitlyn Jones was seventh in the 400 run, she finished at 1:02.03.
In the hurdle events, Herlein ran to fifth in the 300 at 47.75 and ran a time of 16.40 for sixth in the 100.
