NORTHVILLE — Construction is underway on Wayne County’s first modern roundabout at the intersection of Seven Mile, Sheldon and Center streets. Street closures began Thursday, Sept. 4.
The $2.55 million project is designed to reduce crashes, improve traffic flow, and make the intersection safer for pedestrians and bicyclists.
The single-lane roundabout will feature narrower crossings, landscaped medians and bicycle ramps to calm traffic and protect pedestrians. It will also include separated right-turn lanes on the east and south legs of the roundabout.
The work will also include resurfacing and striping along Seven Mile, Wing Street and St. Lawrence Boulevard.

What’s open and what’s closed?
The project centers on the intersection of Seven Mile, Sheldon, and Center streets. According to the City of Northville, Center Street is closed immediately south of Fairbrook, and Sheldon Road is closed immediately north of the bridge for the duration of the project. Seven Mile Road will remain open in both directions as required by Wayne County.
While the closures affect Center and Sheldon streets near Seven Mile, the area surrounding Center and Main Streets downtown – previously closed for the social district – remain open.
How do I get around?
Detours are posted along Six Mile, Beck, and Eight Mile roads. Local drivers are likely to use side streets such as Rogers, Wing and Fairbrook.
How long will it last?
Construction began in August 2025 and is scheduled to finish in late November, when the roundabout will open to traffic. Final landscaping and restoration are planned for spring 2026.
