Buddy's Pizza celebrates 50 years of giving

Each year, Buddy’s Pizza dedicates a day to raise money for people in need with its annual Slice for Life event. This year, the Detroit-born chain’s annual event is celebrating 50 years of giving to the Capuchin Soup Kitchen, its longest-standing charitable partner.

When you dine at one of Buddy’s Pizza’s 22 locations on Monday, know that a portion of the sales will help feed others in metro Detroit.

Buddy’s 50th annual Slice for Life fundraiser is Monday, April 27, and when guests make a purchase, a portion of the sales will help others in need. On Monday, the chain will donate 20% of dine-in and carryout sales from all locations to the Capuchin Soup Kitchen, benefitting its community outreach programs.

In late March, Buddy’s Pizza was bought by a group of local investors is now under new ownership. On Monday, the Capuchin Brothers, along with new Buddy’s ownership, will be at the various Buddy’s locations visiting with customers, according to a news release.

As part of the fundraiser, Buddy’s is featuring a limited-time-only Buddy’s + Capuchin Veggie collection menu. The menu is inspired by the Capuchin Soup Kitchen’s Earthworks Urban Farm, a certified organic farm on Detroit’s east side. During April, the Capuchin Soup Kitchen gets $1 for every Eastern Market Veggie Pizza and Earthworks Garden Veggie Salad sold.

Last year, Buddy’s Slice for Life program raised more than $100,000 for the soup kitchen. Since the Slice for Life program’s 1976 inception, Buddy’s Pizza has donated more than $4 million to the Capuchin Soup Kitchen. If you can get to a Buddy’s location, donations can also be made online at cskdetroit.org.
