The Brighton Township Board of Trustees unanimously approved a preliminary site plan June 15 for a controversial condo development on Woodland Lake.
The Cove at Woodland Lake is planned for the last undeveloped parcel along Woodlake Lake. The Brighton Township Planning Commission previously recommended approval of the site plan June 8, despite numerous concerns voiced by residents and members of the Organization of Woodland Lake (OWL).
The Mitch Harris Building Company seeks to construct eight docks and 39 condominiums on roughly 42.8 acres of vacant property south of Dann Drive and North Christine Drive. There were no members of the public in attendance June 15, though many have been vocal about the loss of woodland area and a possible increase in contaminants.
OWL — a volunteer, resident-led organization that monitors water quality at the lake — is already appealing the board’s previous decision to approve the project’s rezoning request. The organization filed the appeal in Livingston County’s 44th District Court in April.
A hearing before Judge Susan Longsworth is scheduled for June 18.
