Three people were hospitalized Thursday after a boat exploded at a marine towing business on Lake St. Clair.
Macomb County sheriff’s deputies, along with officers from area agencies, responded to Tow Boat USA, on South River Road in Harrison Township, around 1:10 p.m. for a boat explosion and fire at the gas pumps, the Sheriff’s Office said in a press release.
Multiple people were hurt in the incident and “at least three” were transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment, the release said.
There was no indication of foul play, the Sheriff’s Office said, and the cause of the blast remains under investigation.
According to the company’s website, Tow Boat USA provides boaters with services including emergency towing, fuel delivery, soft ungrounding and jump-starts.
“The Macomb County Sheriff’s Office extends its gratitude to the dock hands and Tow Boat USA employees who acted quickly to assist passengers off the vessel and away from the scene,” the release said.
