A new and high-profile video dome in downtown Detroit is ready to open this September.
Cosm Detroit, an immersive entertainment venue for watching live sports and movies, announced that it will have its public grand opening on Sept. 10, showing an NFL game between the San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Rams.
The 70,000-square-foot venue has been under construction since spring 2025 and is situated at 25 Cadillac Square, just east of Campus Martius, near what was the entrance to the former Monroe Street Midway. Inside, the venue will have three levels and an 87-foot-diameter 12K+ LED Dome, according to the Wednesday, July 30, announcement.
Detroit will be the fourth city in the country to have a Cosm venue, after Los Angeles, Dallas and a recently opened Atlanta location.
The venue was developed by Detroit-based Bedrock as Phase 1 of Bedrock’s project for the entire block, known as The Development at Cadillac Square, formerly called the Monroe Blocks.
Cosm ticket prices for live sports events have not yet been posted at www.cosm.com.
In the days following the 49ers and Rams game, the venue is scheduled to show the U.S. Open, the Sept. 12 Oklahoma versus Michigan NCAA football game and Sept. 14 viewings of the movies “Harry Potter and The Sorcerer’s Stone” and “Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory” — served with a curated menu of desserts.
Bedrock’s founder Dan Gilbert is a reported investor in the Cosm company, which plans to open numerous additional locations across the country by 2030, including in Cleveland.
Next door to Cosm, Bedrock plans to later build a Market Hall with various features of a food hall, a beer garden and a small music venue. Bedrock previously indicated a potential mid-2027 construction start for the Market Hall.
For Phase 2 of the overall development, Bedrock is considering a possible residential conversion of the nearby and vacant 40-story Cadillac Tower, a 1927 office building.
