Bay Mills Community College announced on Wednesday, March 4 plans to build a new, state-of-the-art Allied Health Facility on its main campus.
The 36,000-square-foot project will replace the existing old library building. According to the college’s announcement, construction is scheduled to begin in May, with plans to open by Fall 2027.
School officials said the project was inspired by the urgent need for Certified Nursing Assistant and Licensed Practical Nurse programs in the region. The new facility is expected to include cutting-edge technology like a nursing simulation lab and an EMT lab, which will provide hands-on, real-world training for health care students. The building will also include modern office spaces, a relocated and expanded library, and a full-service cafeteria.
“Bay Mills Indian Community is very proud of Bay Mills Community College’s Allied Health Facility. This structure is about investing in opportunity, empowerment and the future of our students,” said Whitney Gravelle, president of the Bay Mills Indian Community and chair of the BMCC Board of Regents, in the announcement. “By creating more space for learning and services, we are building a place where every student can thrive, connect with their culture, and build the skills they need to succeed in life and in their communities.”
Dr. Duane Bedell, president of Bay Mills Community College, also expressed his pride in the project and what it means for students.
“I am incredibly proud of what we are accomplishing together at Bay Mills Community College,” Bedell said in a statement. “This project reflects our ability to respond to today’s health care workforce demands while never losing sight of what matters most: ensuring our students are prepared to transition confidently into meaningful employment when they complete their programs. This kind of impact doesn’t happen by chance. It is the result of the dedication, collaboration and hard work of so many people across BMCC, and I am deeply grateful to everyone who has contributed their time, expertise and passion to bringing this vision to life.”
