A new family-owned and operated restaurant is now serving customers in Holland Township.
Thai Kafe recently opened at 977 Butternut Drive adjacent to Leigh’s Brewing Company. The eatery offers authentic fare from Thailand, Laos and China.
Kayla Phouphommachack, the restaurant’s manager, said the eatery opened in February after roughly a year of planning and preparation. She runs the restaurant with her father, Vong; her brother, Peyton; and her mother, Kaysone, who serves as chef.
Locals may recognize Vong and Kaysone, who previously owned Asian Island at 520 Butternut Drive. The new restaurant serves as a rebranding of sorts.
“We just love the restaurant environment,” Phouphommachack said. “We decided to open another restaurant because my mom loves to cook and express her love with her food.”
Phouphommachack said locals are already becoming familiar with the spot and have taken to favorites like Nam Neung, Lao Sausage, Lard Na Mee Kroop and Tum Luang Probang.
Customers have highlighted the variety and authenticity of the menu, she said, which features nearly 50 items that can be served with varying degrees of heat. Someday, the family hopes to host birthdays and graduations, with a stage that could be utilized in the future.
“We really want people to come and explore authentic food with us,” Phouphommachack said.
The restaurant is open 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Sundays-Fridays. Learn more on Facebook under Thai Kafe.
