With great feeder programs at the youth level, it’s no secret why soccer in Northern Michigan stays consistently great year after year.
And once again in 2025, the spring girls season lived up to past expectations.
Petoskey found itself in the Big North Conference race once again, then followed it up with a Division 2 district title.
Harbor Springs claimed the very first Northern Shores Conference title with an 11-0 standing, then Boyne City put a late run together to earn its way into regionals with a Division 3 district title.
All of that success led to multiple postseason honors for all three teams, including all-BNC and all-NSC recognition.
Petoskey placed seven across the Big North lists, while Harbor Springs grabbed seven Northern Shores spots and Boyne City, six. Charlevoix also had four players recognized.
For Petoskey, Annika Gandhi, Haidyn Wegmann, Abby Wonnacott and Sadie Corey all earned first team within the Big North.
Corey was a four-year starter as Petoskey’s keeper, racking up 10 shutouts in her final campaign, with Wonnacott a leader on that backline helping Corey do so.
Gandhi, who earned another all-state nod this season, led in scoring with nine goals and eight assists. Wegmann also contributed eight goals and nine assists from the midfield in an all-state season.
On the second team was Mady Smith, who had a strong sophomore campaign with four goals and two assists, then Lily Premo and Clara Mailloux, both seniors, claimed honorable mention.
Premo came up big late in the season for PHS, while contributing five goals and four assists for the season.
Northern Shores
Within the newly formed Northern Shores Conference, Harbor Springs made claim as the top team right away and kept themselves there throughout the year.
The Rams had few holes and that was highlighted in their all-conference selections.
Sophomore Stefi Reskevics, junior Fran Warren and senior Mckenzie Bowman all earned first team honors in the league. Reskevics finished with a team-high 21 goals and 10 assists, with Warren then contributing nine goals and five assists.
Bowman played on the defensive side, though still put in four goals and added two assists.
On the second team for Harbor were both Sophie and Lilly Barnadyn, as well as Lizzie Bassett, then freshman keeper Lillian McShannock earned honorable mention.
Bassett scored nine goals and had seven assists, while McShannock totaled seven shutouts in net.
Boyne City placed three on the first team between Braydin Noble, Kaelyn Matelski and Bridget McHugh.
Noble, a senior forward and midfielder that’ll play at Michigan Tech ahead, led the team with 29 gals and eight assists.
Both Matelski and McHugh played primarily on defense for the Ramblers, though Matelski saw some time in the midfield and scored one goal, with four assists.
On the second team were both sophomore Elle Wilson and senior Jacky Dunlap, then sophomore Addy Burns also earned honorable mention. All three played on the defensive end for Boyne.
Charlevoix’s honorees also included Lena Sytsma-Reed and Hanna Miller on the first team, Erin Robarge on second team and Adelaide Wiers on the honorable mention list.
