Airport boys nip New Boston Huron in Huron League cross country

MONROE – Airport was a single point better than New Boston Huron to win the first Huron League cross country jamboree of the season.

The Jets scored 66 points at Munson Park at Tuesday, Sept. 16 led by Easton Danic )5), William Dobbertin (11), Hayden Bovair (15), Hunter Rodak (17) and Andrew Bell (18).

Huron finished with 67 with Luke Dulecki took third and teammates Cameron Crane and Tanner Kuhn ran eighth and 10th respectively.

Flat Rock was third with 83, followed by St. Mary Catholic Central with 89, Jefferson with 96, Grosse Ile with 135, Milan with 170 and Riverview with 199.

Flat Rock’s Jacob Stanislawski was the individual winner in 16:29.16 and Christian Craanen of SMCC finished second.

Flat Rock’s Lucas Taraskiewicz (6), Mason Martin of Milan (7) and Jefferson’s Mason Tulik (9) also cracked the Top 10.

Huron won the girls championship with 46 points, 12 better than Airport. SMCC (93), Grosse Ile (103), Jefferson (114) and Milan (116) completed the field.

Huron’s Avery Turk took first individually in 19:56.03 with Bella LaFountain of SMCC, Claire Miller of Jefferson, Ella Baker of Airport and Amerie Wilson taking they next four spots.

Supporting Turk were Isa Vargo (8), Zoey Cheney (11), Falyn Doss (12) and Kayla Christenesen (16).

Airport got strong performances from Brenna Baker (9), Leah Adkins (10) and Madison Kemp (17);

Kaily McDaniel was seventh for Milan and Juleigh Husby 13th for SMCC.

TUESDAY’S TOP PERFORMERS

CROSS COUNTRY

Tanylei Neff and Joe Colaluca, Erie Mason: Both posted seventh-place finishes in the Blissfield Al Navarro Invitational. Mason’s boys were third in the team standings with David Mills, Porter Ravary Caleb Healey and Weston Albring running 11-15-19-22. Also cracking the Top 20 in the girls race were Makenzie Wolfe of Summerfield (13) and Braelynn Chiotti (18) and Briar Wing (20) of Whiteford.

Wyatt DelValle, Gibraltar Carlson: Placed fourth in a Downriver League jamboree. He was supported by Jack Dunwoody (8), Benjamin Ciesielski (12), Collin Jaskula (16) and Evan Eaton (28) as the Marauders took second place. Carlson’s girls also finished second behind a 7-8-9-10-11 finish by Giada Fioritto, Harper Jackson, Madison Slade, Livia Boucher and Ada Cain.

VOLLEYBALL

Lucy Monahan, Bedford: Recorded 12 kills during a 25-21,21-25,22-25,19-25 loss to Ann Arbor Skyline. Olivia Eby (16) and Cady Fischer (12) led in assists and Blair Russow (22) and Anna Gray (18) were tops in digs.

Lilly Motylinski, Dundee: Stood out on offense and defense with 17 kills and 18 digs in a 25-12, 25-17, 23-25 and 25-14 triumph over Hillsdale. Other leaders were Sophia Nolff (5 aces), Lacey Evans (18 digs) and Ella Fowler (22 assists).  

Addeson Cousino, Whiteford: Accumulated 28 assists, 8 digs and 6 aces in a 25-19, 25-13, 25-22 victory over Sand Creek. The Bobcats moved to 9-8 overall and 4-1 in the Tri-County Conference as Bailey Spradling rang up 9 kills and 16 digs and Kailee LaVoy 11kills.

Riley Soldwish, Summerfield: Was credited with 32 assists in a 25-17, 16-25, 25-18, 29-27 loss to Lenawee Christian. Other standouts were Maya Stone (17 digs, 13 assists, 5 aces), Mia Samples (12 digs). Bethany Suydam (10 digs, 4 blocks), Jaeli Jones (13 kills) and Gabi Myshock (4 blocks, 5 kills).

Addie Homrich, Erie Mason: Led a 25-18, 17-25, 23-25, 25-18, 17-15 win over Morenci with 24 kills. Paige Konrad (3 blocks) and Jayanna Willets (21 digs) also played well for the 9-5 Eagles. “We took some hits but we hit back harder,” said Mason coach Kayle Scott. “That’s a win we will remember.”

Addy Wilt, Ida: Hit .409 with 10 kills in a 25-14, 25-10, 25-19 victory over Blissfield. Libbie Wolfenbarger added 7 kills and Julia Williams, Ella Curry, and Ella Taylor finished with 5 each. Alyssa Torres contributed 20 assists and 7 digs and Brandie Gobrecht had 19 digs. “Setters did a great job of spreading out the offense and our defense played scrappy and disciplined,” Ida coach Ashley Begeman said.

GIRLS SWIMMING

Alexis Etue and Grace Cureton, Erie Mason-Ida: Each won two individual events and swam on two winning relays in a 102-70 win over Pinckney. Giuliana Nastale and Chloe Arnold also won individual events.

PREP TENNIS

Lucas Maynard, Bedford: Pulled out a 6-0, 6-7 (10-8), 10-6 win over Monroe’s Parker Renwick at No. 3 singles to spark a 6-2 victory. The Mules also got a singles win from Jackson Root and swept the doubles with Malakai Gorczca-Kyler Burger, Cain Cole-Grant Armstrong, Jack Ryan-Jackson Zapp and Isaac Hinkleman-Jacob Black. Monroe won the first two singles slots with Levi Duran and Max Hassett.
