Adrian baseball stymied by Chelsea no-hitter in regional semifinals as dream season ends

ADRIAN – The Adrian Maples baseball program has put together a dream season in 2025, winning a Division 2 district championship while compiling a record of 22-14 overall on the year.

That dream season came to an end Wednesday afternoon in the Division 2 Regional 27 semifinal, as the Maples fell to the Chelsea Bulldogs 7-0.

Chelsea absolutely stymied the Adrian offense, as Bulldog starting pitcher Jimmy Sciackitano allowed no hits throughout the seven-inning affair, with only three walks and 10 strikeouts.

Adrian only managed three base runners throughout the game as Solomon Hiatt, Tyler Bruggeman, and Julius Robichaud all were able to reach base via the walk.

Chelsea started their scoring early with a run each in the first, second, and third innings. The Bulldogs broke the game open with three runs in the fifth inning and added an insurance run in the sixth inning for the 7-0 win.

Joelden Griffin took the loss on the mound for Adrian after throwing three innings in the start. Griffin allowed three runs, two earned, on four hits with three walks.

Chelsea will advance to the Division 2 regional final at the University of Michigan where they will face Trenton, who defeated Riverview 8-1 with game time scheduled for Saturday at 12:30 p.m. The winner will advance to the state quarterfinals later in the day, beginning at 3 p.m., to face either Parma Western, Mason, Portland, or Williamston.
