One of Michigan’s largest locally owned lavender farms will be closing this summer, bidding farewell by sending visitors home with as much lavender as they can carry. Until their last day, Aug. 15, farmgoers can cut as much lavender as they can carry for only $20.
The Dennis family, owners of Indigo Lavender Farms in Lapeer County, announced on Facebook they plan to close the farm’s doors this summer so they can retire and spend more time with their relatives.
The farm claims to be the largest lavender farm in Michigan, offering years of hosting weddings, proposals and several public events, including their own annual lavender festival. The Dennises said at the end of it all, closing down the farm feels bittersweet.
“We have been incredibly blessed to be part of so many memories, and for that, we are forever grateful,” the farm said on Facebook. “While saying goodbye is never easy, we are also excited for this next chapter of life. Retirement brings new adventures, more time with family, and the opportunity to reflect on a journey that has exceeded every dream we had when we first opened our gates.”
As for the rest of the summer, the farm said in the announcement that weddings and events set to take place at the farm will still go on as scheduled.
The farm did not immediately respond to the Free Press for comment.
