Two young children and their parent from Pontiac died after a car crash at the intersection of Montcalm Road and Joslyn Road in Pontiac, according to police. One adult and one child remain in the hospital after the crash.

Preliminary investigation shows around 8:20 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29, a 2022 Honda Civic driven by a 21-year-old Pontiac resident was traveling southbound on Joslyn Road and allegedly crossed into oncoming traffic, according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.

The Civic then left the roadway to the east and struck multiple signs and poles before re-entering Montcalm Road, where it collided with a 2025 Chevrolet Malibu stopped at a red light, according to preliminary investigation by the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.

The 37-year-old driver of the Malibu from Pontiac was pronounced dead at the scene. The 6-year-old and 4-year-old passengers in the Malibu, who police believe to be the kids of the driver, were taken to McLaren Oakland Hospital and later pronounced dead.

A 9-year-old child also riding in the Malibu, also believed to be the child of the driver, is in critical condition at Corewell Health William Beaumont University Hospital in Royal Oak.

The driver of the Civic is in stable condition at Trinity Health Oakland Hospital, according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.

The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit is leading the investigation, with assistance from the Drone Unit, which mapped the crash scene.
