17-year-old boy dies from injures after being shot on Detroit's east side

A 17-year-old boy died after being shot several times on Detroit’s east side on Friday, Aug. 15, according to police.

The shooting occurred in the 1600 block of Eastwood Street in Detroit a little after 4 p.m. Friday, Detroit Police Department spokesperson Jasmin Barmore said.

The boy was taken to the hospital, where he died of his injuries, Barmore said.

The boy is the only victim of the shooting police know of as of 9:40 a.m. Saturday Aug. 16, Barmore said.

There is no information on a suspect or suspects, she said.

At least 16 teenagers and children have been shot in Detroit since June 27. As of July 29, there have been 33% more juvenile victims of gun violence compared with last year, and 18% more juveniles 17 and under have been caught with guns compared with last year, according to police.
