Nearly 15 years after three young brothers vanished from Morenci in a case that gripped the nation and haunted Lenawee County, their father, John Skelton, now faces three counts of open murder and evidence tampering — a stunning turn just weeks before his scheduled release from prison.

Andrew, 9, Alexander, 7, and Tanner, 5, disappeared on Thanksgiving 2010 amid a bitter custody dispute. They were last seen with Skelton, whom they were visiting for the holiday.

Despite exhaustive searches across Michigan and Ohio, the boys were never found, and Skelton’s shifting stories — including that he gave the boys to an unknown underground organization — only deepened the mystery.
