Mayor Pro Tem Lisa Hendrick too time during her commissioner privilege at the recent meeting to share how the city’s Old Newsboys did this year. She said it takes a lot to put it on but the Old Newsboys will be providing gifts for 247 kids this year. The group recently held their paper sales out in the streets and “nobody ran us over, we all had our corners,” Hendrick laughed.  Noting that it was raining and miserable that day, she said everyone gave, even small donations, and it was just so nice and she really appreciated it.

“This coming Saturday (Dec. 16) is the voucher day, this is where we give everything away to all the kids, the vouchers go to the parents so they can do the shopping for the clothes,” Hendrick said. “We provide so much they get clothes, shoes, they get fruit, they get toys and they get candy.”

Marine City Mayor Pro Tem Lisa Hendrick said the Marine City Old Newsboys had a great year and helped provide gifts to 247 children this year.

She said they try to provide a little bit of everything for the kids that don’t have a lot.

“You can’t do it without a community like this, I’ll tell you this community is just the best when it comes to these types of things for helping out the kids in the local area,” Hendrick said, also taking a moment to thank all the volunteers who made the project a success.

Resolutions set for early voting sites

Members of the Marine City Commission unanimously adopted Resolution 26-2023 to establish an Early Voting Site Location and Date Plans for 2024. The resolution is to establish early voting plans for both federal and state elections.

The commission also approved Resolution 27-2023 for Voting Precinct Alterations and Consolidation. Mayor Jennifer Vandenbossche said the resolution had already been approved by the city’s election commission and it will only be used after the February vote. Mayor Pro Tem Lisa Hendrick said the resolution simply means the city is going back to just one precinct instead of two so voters don’t have to worry about where they live anymore, Vandenbossche yes, that’s the case but that will only be true after the February election. Precinct 1 will be located at the Guy Community Center which has 3,428 registered voters.

Commission sets meeting dates for 2024

The Marine City Commission set their meeting dates for 2024 during a recent meeting. The plan is to meet on the first and third Thursdays of the month at 7 p.m. at city hall. The 2024 calendar notes a regular meeting cancellation for Jan. 4, 2024 and notation for a July meeting for July 4, 2024. In addition, the Planning Commission will meet on the first Monday of each month at 7 p.m. at city hall. The Marine City 300 Broadway Committee will meet on the fourth Monday of the month at 5 p.m. at city hall. The Marine City Hall is located at 260 South Parker Street in the city.

Hendrick offers kudos to city staff
