LANSING – Former Westland Police Sgt. Kevin Yudt, 42, of Grass Lake, was bound over to stand trial yesterday for two counts of Ethnic Intimidation, each a 2-year felony, and two counts of Assault and Battery, each a 93-day misdemeanor, announced Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel. The charges stem from an incident on April 6th, 2023, when security at MGM Grand Detroit denied Yudt and a friend access to the casino floor as he appeared to be intoxicated.
After being denied access, Yudt allegedly identified himself as a Westland police sergeant and told security, “I’ll be waiting for you when you come to Westland, and you will not survive.” He also allegedly poked the security officers in the chest while shouting racial slurs. Yudt was terminated from his employment with the Westland Police Department in May of 2023.
“My office takes allegations of ethnic intimidation and assault very seriously and will prosecute offenders to the fullest extent of the law,” said Nessel.
Yudt will next appear in 3rd Circuit Court in Wayne County on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at 9 a.m.
