What do Trilliums, Trout Lilies, and Toothwort all have in common?
They’re all blooming on Mother’s Day weekend!
Join local naturalists Mary Kay Weber and Kirsten Lyons to explore the woodland wildflowers of the rustic and rolling Columbus County Park on Saturday, May 11, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Meet in front of the Lodge. Guided and self-guided options will be available.
Learn the secrets of spring ephemeral flowers and the habitats that harbor them. Ants, bees, and small mammals rely on these early bloomers for food and shelter, and photographers and plant lovers find them fascinating. Mary Kay Weber, naturalist and co-leader of the walk, said, “Columbus County Park holds a great diversity of spring wildflowers along its beautiful wooded, winding, rolling trails. I look forward to discussing how wildflowers support a thriving ecosystem and how these plants have adapted to life on the forest floor.” All are welcome at this free and family-friendly event. Columbus County Park is located at 1670 Bauman Road, Columbus MI 48063. Meet at 10 a.m. at the Lodge at the end of the main entrance driveway. Free parking and restrooms are available at the Lodge. Dress for the weather. Clothing and footwear that can get wet and dirty are suggested. This event qualifies for two MSU Extension Master Gardener education hours.
