What do Trilliums, Trout Lilies, and Toothwort all have in common?
They’re all blooming on Mother’s Day weekend!
Join local naturalists Mary Kay Weber and Kirsten Lyons to explore the woodland wildflowers of the rustic and rolling Columbus County Park on Saturday, May 11, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Meet in front of the Lodge. Guided and self-guided options will be available.
Learn the secrets of spring ephemeral flowers and the habitats that harbor them. Ants, bees, and small mammals rely on these early bloomers for food and shelter, and photographers and plant lovers find them fascinating. Mary Kay Weber, naturalist and co-leader of the walk, said, “Columbus County Park holds a great diversity of spring wildflowers along its beautiful wooded, winding, rolling trails. I look forward to discussing how wildflowers support a thriving ecosystem and how these plants have adapted to life on the forest floor.” All are welcome at this free and family-friendly event. Pre-registration is strongly encouraged. To register, contact Kirsten Lyons, klyons@stclaircounty.org, (810) 989-6317.
