Authorities are investigating three separate deadly collisions that took place within a five-hour span in Hesperia, Victorville and Adelanto over the weekend.
The crashes claimed the lives of a motorcyclist from Hesperia, a pedestrian from Apple Valley and a pickup truck driver from Victorville, according to San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department and coroner’s officials.
Motorcyclist killed in collision with car in Hesperia
The first wreck in the series took place at 7:15 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21, at Seventh Avenue and Farmington Street in Hesperia.
“Deputies responded to the location for an unknown injury traffic collision between a vehicle and a motorcycle,” agency spokeswoman Gloria Orejel said.
Paramedics took the badly injured motorcyclist to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries, she said.
He was identified by San Bernardino County coroner’s officials as Angel Mendoza Nunez, 29, of Hesperia.
Further details regarding the cause and circumstances of the collision were not available.
Pedestrian fatally struck in Adelanto
The second fatal traffic collision between a car and a pedestrian took place at 8:55 p.m Friday, Aug. 21, at Highway 395 and Palmdale Road in Adelanto.
“The reporting party on scene discovered the pedestrian was not breathing,” Orejel said. “Emergency medical personnel also responded and pronounced the pedestrian deceased.”
The victim was identified as Mary Handford, 60, of Apple Valley.
No further details were released.
Man, 23, dies in solo-vehicle crash in Victorville
A 23-year-old man was killed in a solo-vehicle wreck first reported at 12:07 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, at Seventh Avenue and Lindero Street in Victorville.
The Victorville collision involved just one vehicle, a Dodge Ram pickup truck, and left a 23-year-old man dead, authorities said.
Officials said the truck was traveling north on Seventh Avenue in the left-hand lane prior to the crash.
“For reasons still under investigation, the Dodge crossed into the southbound lanes of Seventh Avenue, continued toward the western curb, and collided with a fence and block wall,” according to a sheriff’s department statement.
The driver, identified by coroner’s officials as 23-year-old Jarett Juarez of Victorville, succumbed to his injuries at a hospital a short time later.
“Alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the collision,” the statement said.
The crashes were being investigated by the Hesperia Police Department, the Victorville Police Department and the Victor Valley Sheriff’s Station, respectively.
