One Rams rookie made PFF's preseason team — and it wasn't Ty Simpson

The Los Angeles Rams landed one player on Pro Football Focus’ all-rookie team for the opening weekend of the preseason, and it wasn’t quarterback Ty Simpson who earned the nod despite his dazzling debut in Kansas City

Instead, undrafted free agent Austin Blaske made the list after he split time between left tackle and left guard in the preseason opener. He allowed just one pressure at tackle while otherwise looking comfortable at both spots. That versatility earned him a place among PFF’s top offensive tackles from Week 1, alongside San Francisco 49ers rookie Carver Willis.

The Rams already run one of the league’s most well-rounded offensive lines, but Blaske’s preseason showing amounts to more than a tune-up. Several of Los Angeles’ starting linemen are scheduled to hit free agency next offseason, and Blaske’s ability to play multiple spots along the interior and edge could put him in position for a larger role in 2027, at the very least as a depth piece.

PFF’s grading standard for inclusion required at least 15 snaps played in the preseason opener, a bar that eliminated many bigger names who saw only a drive or two of action. Blaske cleared it comfortably, taking enough reps at two positions to give evaluators a real look at his range.

It was surprising to see Simpson miss making the team after he completed 21-for-25 passes for 190 yards and two touchdowns. However, he would have needed to clear Steelers rookie Drew Allar, who had an 80.5 PFF grade after completing 10-of-13 passes for 153 yards, two passing touchdowns, and a rushing touchdown.
