LAFAYETTE, IN — Only one suspect remains at large from the July 12 brawl on the John T. Myer Pedestrian Bridge in which a group of seven to 10 people attacked and beat a 22-year-old Lafayette man.
On Friday, Lafayette police arrested the fifth suspect — Tristian Jeremiah Patterson, 18 — at his home in the 100 block of Woods Edge Court in West Lafayette, police said.
Patterson kicked and stomped the 22-year-old man’s head after the man was knocked to the ground during the brawl about 4:50 a.m. July 12, according to prosecutors and social media videos of the attack. Patterson also is seen throwing punches, hitting the man, according to court documents.
The 22-year-old man lost consciousness after he was knocked to the ground, according to prosecutors. He suffered a severe concussion, extreme head pain and blurred vision. His injuries also left him unable to read after the attack, according to the probable cause affidavit.
The brawl started after the 22-year-old man told a girl she looked pretty, and the girl gave him a hug, according to prosecutors. Another woman charged the man, who punched her, sparking the fight in which men and women in the group punched the man.
After the man was knocked to the ground on the bridge, others continued to punch him, and prosecutors say Patterson was one of those and kicked him and stomped on the man’s head.
Patterson is charged with aggravated battery, a Level 3 felony, battery resulting in bodily injury, a Level 5 felony, and theft, a Level 6 battery.
If Patterson is convicted of the most serious battery charge, he faces three to 16 years in prison, according to Indiana law.
At Patterson’s initial hearing Monday, his bail was set at $100,000 surety bond and a $10,000 cash bond. He also is being held on a 2025 misdemeanor driving charge for which he failed to appear in court.
Patterson currently remains in the Tippecanoe County Jail.
The only defendant remaining at large is Carl Dwayne Johnson, 37, of the 300 block of Teal Road in Lafayette. He is wanted on a warrant on charges of theft and battery resulting in bodily injury.
Co-defendants Lesslare Edward Porter, 33, of the 500 block of Gordon Court in Lafayette, and Zachary James Tyner, 58, of the 1400 block of Main Street in Lafayette, remain at the Tippecanoe County Jail.
Porter is charged with aggravated battery, battery with serious bodily injury and theft. Tyner is charged with battery with serious bodily injury and theft.
Police already have arrested Jasmine Mae Dallas, 32, of the 1200 block of Brown Street in Lafayette, for her alleged role in the brawl. She faces charges of battery resulting in bodily injury and theft. A warrant has been issued for her arrest on a petition to revoke her probation from a 2025 conviction of intimidation.
Police also have arrested Angela D. Deberry, 25, of the 1100 block of Rochelle Drive in Lafayette, on charges of battery resulting in bodily injury and theft for her alleged role in the fights.
Dallas and Deberry are not incarcerated.
