PLOVER – Dine Brands intends to turn the former Monk’s building into a dual-branded Applebee’s and IHOP restaurant by the end of this year.
A company spokesperson told a Stevens Point Journal reporter Aug. 4 the Plover restaurant is on track to open by the end of 2026 at 1400 Commerce Place.
Siyavoush Soleimani Group, an Applebee’s and IHOP franchisee, confirmed to a Stevens Point Journal reporter in May the dual brand would open in Plover and Wisconsin Rapids.
Crews will work to renovate the building at 1400 Commerce Place, where Monk’s Bar & Grill served its dishes between June 2019 and May 1, 2026. The building was previously home to Golden Corral.
Dine Brands is also working on opening a dual-branded Applebee’s and IHOP restaurant in Wisconsin Rapids, aiming to open in August at the former Applebee’s location at 4311 Eighth St. S., where Applebee’s previously closed in April 2025.
Marshfield opened Wisconsin’s first dual-branded Applebee’s-IHOP
The dual-branded concept opened last September in Marshfield after Dine Brands closed its Applebee’s in July 2025 and crews redesigned it to add the IHOP brand.
The company also opened a dual-branded Applebee’s and IHOP location in October in Wausau.
Before the Marshfield dual-branded restaurant opened, a Dine Brands’ representative told a USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin reporter the idea for a dual brand came from the company’s internal partners.
Franchise owners started reaching out to the company, asking if they could own multiple brands within the Dine Brands portfolio, and the company saw a great opportunity to feature two iconic brands under one roof.
How dual-branded Applebee’s and IHOP restaurants work
At these dual-branded restaurants, guests choose to sit in either the Applebee’s-branded or IHOP-branded areas, although all guests can order anything from either brand’s menu. The menu itself is color-coded to note from which menu the dish came. The menu also offers unique options that can only be found at dual-branded locations.
Each renovation to create a dual-branded space incorporates décor specific to each brand under one roof, but each location’s design is specifically designed for that community.
The Marshfield location, for example, welcomed guests with a Marshfield city map in the entry way and included local photos and décor inside.
