Texas has the opportunity to put existing federal resources to work for our children and local economies. The Summer Electronic Benefit Transfer program helps families purchase groceries during the summer months, ensuring their kids have nutritious meals even when school is out.
Implementing SEBT is a smart investment for Texas. Our federal tax dollars already help fund this program, and choosing not to participate means leaving $450 million on the table. This program would not only strengthen Texas families through the purchase of healthy foods like fresh produce and protein but would also generate an estimated $693 million in economic impact, boosting local grocery stores, farmers and communities.
Summer EBT means healthier kids, stronger local economies and a more thriving Texas.
I urge state Rep. James Frank, R-Wichita Falls, of House District 69 to support the implementation of this program in Texas during the upcoming legislative session.
No child in Texas should be left without resources already meant to support them.
— State Rep. Toni Rose, D-Dallas, of House District 110
