Before Los Angeles Rams running back Kyren Williams introduced himself to newly acquired defensive lineman Myles Garrett, Williams stated that he was a “little bit nervous” to talk to Garrett during OTAs due to their shared history on the football field.
Joking about the situation with Kay Adams, Williams told the story of Garrett and him squashing their beef that stemmed from the Rams’ game against the Cleveland Browns in 2023.
Williams, who established himself as the team’s starter that season, always gave maximum effort in pass protection. One of his strengths is his ability to chip edge rushers, and Williams chipped Garrett in that game, knocking him to the turf. Williams also took a little liberty after the play, leading to a situation that Williams laughingly called “the elephant in the room.”
For reference, here’s the play in question, which was a clean but punishing block by the young running back.
During Williams’ discussion with Adams, Williams said Garrett teased him about the situation now that they’re teammates, and while they spoke briefly during OTAs, it was Garrett who brought it up at training camp.
“Don’t think I didn’t forget what happened a couple years ago,” Garrett said to Williams.
Williams did say there was no animosity between the two and it was “nothing but laughs,” reminiscing about their shared moment on the gridiron. Williams went on to say that Garrett will only make him better and that the team spent the entire week talking about stopping Garrett before the 2023 showdown. The Rams won that game, 36-19, with Williams having over 100 total yards and a touchdown.
