Milton man arrested for DUI manslaughter after 17-year-old killed in crash

A Milton man is facing DUI manslaughter charges after his passenger was killed in a crash on July 15.

Dylan Shane Barnhill, 22, and a 17-year-old passenger were traveling southbound on Munson Highway at approximately 1:46 a.m., according to a Florida Highway Patrol news release.

Barnhill’s pickup truck left the roadway onto the west shoulder, reentered the roadway, then ran off the roadway and onto the west shoulder again, where it began “rotating in a counterclockwise direction,” according to the release.

The pickup reentered the roadway for a second time, crossing both north and southbound lanes, while continuing to rotate, the release said. The pickup exited the roadway onto the east shoulder, and the right side of the truck collided with a tree and counter rotated while striking a second tree.

The front, right door of the pickup detached when it counter rotated, causing the passenger to be ejected. The 17-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The driver was transported to Baptist Hospital in Pensacola, where further investigation determined him to be under the influence of alcohol. A DUI investigation was conducted, and Barnhill was placed under arrest,” the release said, noting the investigation is ongoing and additional charges are pending.

Barnhill was charged with DUI manslaughter and booked into Santa Rosa County Jail, where he is being held without bond, according to jail records.
