What is notoriously one of the toughest tests in golf might be a little easier this week if weather forecasts for the 2026 Open Championship are any indication. With pleasant conditions and little to no rain expected through Sunday, the British Open will likely play drastically differently than it did the last time it came to Royal Birkdale.
Back in 2017, Jordan Spieth won a waterlogged rendition of The Open. This year’s version, the 154th in the tournament’s lauded history, features 156 PGA Tour stars, LIV Golf players, members of various other worldwide tours and amateurs seeking their moment in the sun.
World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler won last year’s tournament but has scuffled this season, even missing the cut at last week’s Scottish Open, won by Tom Kim. Reigning Masters victor Rory McIlroy and PGA champion Aaron Rai could give the UK another Open winner, while Tommy Fleetwood and Chris Gotterup highlight the group seeking their first major title.
