Star of breakout hit 'Off Campus' is a big fan of the Detroit Tigers

One of the stars of a hit hockey TV show, as it turns out, is a huge baseball fan. Specifically, Antonio Cipriano of Amazon Prime’s “Off Campus” is a huge Tigers fan.

Which Tiger was his favorite growing up Metro Detroit? Do you have a minute?

“Honestly, the Tigers, all of them growing up,” Cipriano said at this week’s All-Star Game festivities in Philadelphia, where he shot a quick interview with Major League Baseball. “I’m gonna say Miguel Cabrera just because I have to say Miguel Cabrera, cuz he’s Miggy. Victor Martinez, Prince Fielder, Jhonny Peralta, all the guys, man. Alex Avila, Max Scherzer, Justin Verlander, Magglio Ordonez!

“How could you not love baseball. How could you not romanticize baseball?

“It’s the most amazing sport. It brings people together.”

Cipriano, 26, grew up in Grosse Pointe Woods, and attended University Liggett before embarking on his acting and singing career. Cipriano debuted on Broadway in 2019, and in 2026 he starred in the first season of Prime’s “Off Campus,” as hockey player John Logan. The series premiered in May, and has been renewed for a second season.

Cipriano also is a big Lions fan, and has sung at the national anthem before games at Ford Field, most recently for a December game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

But baseball seems to be his biggest passion. The Tigers made the World Series twice, in 2006 and 2012, and made the playoffs five times from 2006-14 while he was growing up in Metro Detroit.

“I started playing when I was a really little kid,” Cipriano said. “I think the thing that really inspired me right off the bat was watching ‘Sandlot’ as a kid. I was like, this, it was one of my favorite movies.

“I just like getting out to the park with your boys and hanging out. There’s nothing better.”
